Notifying CRA about change of address
Has your mailing address changes with this new tax season? And are you wondering how can you notify the CRA about it? Then this is the perfect article for you. We’ll tell you how you can notify the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) about change of address.
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) encourages individuals to promptly notify them of any change in their address. It's important to keep your address information up-to-date with each government organization that offers you services because changes in your address aren't automatically shared among various departments of the Government of Canada, including Service Canada. If you are a resident of Québec, you should also update your address with Revenu Québec separately by visiting their website.
4 ways in which you can notify the CRA about address change
You can update your address through one of the following methods –
- Online: Utilize the CRA's My Account service to make the update electronically
- Phone: Contact the CRA at 1-800-959-8281 to inform them of your address change
- Mail: If you prefer to update your address by mail, please complete and sign Form RC325. Send the duly completed form to the appropriate tax center, the address of which is provided on the form.
- Filing your annual tax return
- Using NETFILE: If you are using the NETFILE option, you can link to your CRA MyAccount directly from your tax preparation software.
- Paper Return: If you are submitting a paper return, ensure you use your new mailing address on the return form.
In addition to updating your address on your tax return, you can also notify the Government of Canada about your address change through the following departments-
- Service Canada
- Immigration and Citizenship
Make sure you inform the CRA at the earliest otherwise your payments for GST/ HST credit, Canada Workers Benefit, or Canada Child Benefit (whichever you are eligible for) may stop and you don’t want that happening.
